Selous Serena Camp & Breezes Itinerary

Explore the Selous Game Reserve, Tanzania and Zanzibar with Africa & Beyond in 2015.

Spend a fantastic 4 night safari in the game rich and beautiful Selous Game Reserve in Southern Tanzania, in a superb luxury tented camp, before flying onto Zanzibar and spending 7 nights relaxing at the luxurious Breezes Beach Club & Spa, with the chance to explore this fascinating, historic and truly idyllic island.

Day One

Arrive London Heathrow in time to check in for your Kenya Airways KQ101 flight to Nairobi at 19h00. Please ask for regional airport departures.

Day Two

Land Nairobi at 06h30, remain airside and connect with your KQ482 flight at 08h10 to Dar es Salaam. Upon arrival in Dar es Salaam at 09h35 you will clear immigration and collect your luggage. You will be met at arrivals and transfer to the domestic terminal for your internal light-aircraft flight to the Selous. This flight takes approximately one hour and on arrival you will be greeted by your driver-guide from Selous Serena Camp, where the next 4 nights will be spent in a Luxury Tented Room inclusive of all meals, local drinks, open vehicle game drives, boat safaris, sundowner excursions, guided game walks and laundry. There will also be a bush breakfast included during your stay.

Selous Serena Camp –

Set amidst dense indigenous forests, Selous Serena Camp is the ultimate wilderness retreat. With views over the surrounding bush, the twelve widely spaced tents are presented in time-honoured safari style, with natural thatch roofs, elegant Victorian-styled bathrooms, and private viewing decks. Each tent features an engaging mix of canvas walls, crystal chandeliers, opulent rugs and elegant rosewood furniture.

Deep within the wilderness, the central dining room, lounge, library and bar, which are interconnected by broad wooden walkways offer excellent views of the Selous Game Reserve. There is a spectacular 'infinity' pool and sundeck.

Vast, pristine and largely undiscovered, the spectacular Selous Game Reserve is a World Heritage Site and the largest expanse of game reserve in Africa. Covering 55,000 square kilometres of rolling savannah, lakes, rivers and deltas, it is four times the size of the Serengeti and larger than the entire nation of Switzerland. Home to the largest concentrations of elephants in the world, this unique wildlife arena also boasts some of the most exclusive and pioneering boating safaris that Africa has to offer.

  • Just twelve luxury tents with elegant en suite bathrooms
  • Central dining room with magnificent views
  • Largest game reserve in Africa
  • Infinity pool and sundeck
  • Extensive selection of game viewing activities

If you would like to upgrade, and budget allows, please do ask about Selous Serena Camp’s sister property in the Selous - Mivumo River Lodge.

The combination of a safari in the Selous and time relaxing in Zanzibar always works very well. The Selous lends itself to a much slower style of safari with days consisting of guided walks, time out on the river (maybe fishing!) or on game drives in the park. It really is a wonderful way to experience safari.

Days Three, Four and Five

Days spent out on game drives, boating safaris or guided walks from the camp.

The Selous Game Reserve was established in 1922 and covers 5% of Tanzania's total area. The Rufiji River bisects the Reserve and has the largest catchment area of any river in East Africa. The river is an important feature of the reserve providing the opportunity to watch the diverse water-based wildlife.

A broad range of game can be found including elephants, hippos and rhinos as well as buffalo, antelope, giraffe, warthog, wildebeest, lion and leopard. The incredible diversity of bird life in Selous includes over 350 recorded species.

Today after an early breakfast you will say your goodbyes to camp and transfer to the airstrip for your light- aircraft flight to Zanzibar which will take just over an hour.
