In southern Africa, two train operators operate luxury train journeys specifically designed for international visitors, connecting some of the sub continent's most famous attractions in absolute comfort. The world famous Blue Train and the now equally famous Rovos Rail offer journeys through the heart of Africa combining some of the most magnificent scenery with the glamour and excitement of the golden age of rail travel.

In Namibia the Desert Express unique rail experience offers an overnight weekend get-away from Windhoek to the coastal towns of Swakopmund and Walvis Bay. The Desert Express also offers a seven-day tour from Windhoek to Swakopmund, Etosha and back to Windhoek on selected dates. Desert Express consists of nine coaches, which are permanently linked via a draw bar. This train is highly modern, featuring all the convenience and luxury a traveller could ask for.

At the Victoria Falls in Zambia, the Royal Livingstone Express is a unique dining experience combining the luxury of Sun International's Royal Livingstone Hotel with the charm of rail travel.
